I’m a little behind on blog writing, so I haven’t yet made a blog post detailing my outfit diary for my birthday trip to Disneyland in November! Prior to the pandemic and graduating college, we had been going to Disneyland as a family pretty consistently to celebrate my mom’s and my birthdays (which are one day apart!), and this past year was the first time in a while we’ve gotten to do a Disney trip. I was beyond excited to visit Disney again, and I spent months styling the perfect outfit that made me feel like an unofficial Disney Princess (despite inching closer to my thirties…). Read on for all the outfit details & my guide on how to dress like a Disney princess as an adult…

Though I was never the typical princess-obsessed kid, I have always loved fluffy, romantic dresses and picking out outfits. So, when we started planning our Disney trip, I knew I wanted an outfit fit for the occasion! First things first, I had bought a beautiful Olympia Le Tan bag a few years ago when we had planned to go to Disneyland, but the pandemic rained on our parade, so it sat awaiting in my closet for just this occasion! It’s a messenger style bag that has the prettiest embroidered Alice in Wonderland scene on the front, complete with Mad Tea Party themed lining on the inside. This became the basis of my outfit…

Even though Alice in Wonderland isn’t my top favorite Disney movie, I love the quirky colors and psychedelic style of the animation; plus, it’s more unexpected than going for the typical Disney princess movie! To go with the bag, I found a dreamy and fluffy Selkie dress with a print fit for the Mad Hatter. The ruffles look like cake icing, and the length isn’t too short for rides or walking around, so it was perfect! Since November gets a little chilly around Southern California, I added a pie of white knit tights, ruffled socks, and of course, a pair of Onitsuka Tiger sneakers for comfort. To top it off, a white Swiss dot chiffon hair bow and my Scorpio pearl necklace! Peep the final look below…

This look was just the right amount of whimsy and fun, but it still felt appropriate for being a “grown up” IMO (lol)! I felt confident, could move easily without wardrobe malfunctions, and stayed comfortable all day. I can’t wait to go back to Disney again and wear more outfits like this!
If you’re headed to a Disney park soon and want to dress like a Disney princess without being too little-kid-ish, here’s some tips and tricks…
Pick the right dress…
The right dress can always make or break an occasion! Pick a dress that’s a comfortable style and length first and foremost. A lot of rides involve climbing up or down into the car, so don’t pick anything too tight or short (if you do go shorter, wear tights or yoga shorts underneath to avoid undie peeks!). You want to be able to walk around all day and enjoy all the things there are to do without being fidgety! Princess dresses are usually fuller in the bottom, too, so an A line skirt is a great choice. My Selkie dress was a little gaping in the front for me, so I added my favorite Parfait Lingerie bralette for a little more coverage.
Pick the right shoes…
Cinderella’s shoe flying off might’ve worked out in the end for her, but shoe issues at Disneyland are something you just don’t want to deal with when you’re trying to have fun… Unless you’re one of those people who can last for days in heels and not feel a thing (please tell me your secret if you are!!), go with a supportive flat shoe like a cute retro style sneaker (the Onitsuka Tiger ones I wore were really comfy all day!!). Trust me, if you wanna make it till the closing fireworks show and parade, you need to make sure your feet aren’t in a ton of pain from shoes.
Add fancy + tasteful accessories…
Every princess loves her bling, but overdoing it can edge towards childlike, so pick a few meaningful accessories and make sure they stay secured! (I wore small huggie earrings with a clasp closure instead of traditional earring backs so they wouldn’t fall off during rides, and secured the hair bow with bobby pins!) Especially on rougher rides like the Matterhorn, you’ll need accessories that stay with you through it all! PS- I’ve found that the best purses for Disneyland are crossbody and messenger bags! Backpacks are great but your stuff isn’t as accessible if it’s on your back, and should bags are just a pain! Going hands free with your bag at Disneyland is the best, and having your essentials up front and easily reachable saves time in concession lines.
