I don’t know if it’s because we all haven’t been out much in the past year and therefore need a way to jazz up our sweatpants, or maybe we’re pre-planning our party looks for post-pandemic times; either way, the statement handbag seems to have reached cult-status as the must-have accessory in 2021. Several silhouettes have graced virtual runways and street style lookbooks this season, yet the same theme seems to remain: a hint of nostalgia meets minimal chic, with pastels being the top choice of hue.
Despite the hype, bags aren’t something I’ve typically been huge on. Shoes are always my jam (and to be honest, they’re kind of essential, so it’s an easy choice!), but I constantly style looks both with and without a complementary bag. (Especially in real life, because changing my bag every time I run out for errands is just not something I have time for!) But, the months of not feeling particularly put together have gotten to me in a lot of ways, and I’m starting to embrace the handbag shuffle with open arms (literally)!
Having combed through fashion magazines and websites, I’ve finally narrowed down all the trends to my top three favorites, and as a departure from my usual product collages, I decided to hand-sketch my wishlist using my trusty iPad, Pencil, and Adobe Fresco! (If you’re curious about how I did it, check out this Reel on my Insta!)
1 | The Chunky Chain
Heavy hardware is having a major moment right now! My personal favorite for this trend: the House of Want H.O.W We Play Vegan Leather Crossbody. It’s lightweight with a classic silhouette, and it’s very budget-friendly! Use code MUSADELLAMODA for 20% off your order on their site!
2 | The Phone Pouch
I’ve certainly downsized on the things I carry with me when I do go out, so this bag is the perfect fit (no pun intended) for the basics, aka your phone and a few credit cards. There’s something about a teeny bag that just seems ultra-chic, and I love the affordable price point and quirky color scheme of this one by Kurt Geiger!
Ruching gives a classic shoulder bag a plush elegance that feels refreshing after months of utilitarian basics. This inexpensive neutral option by Topshop is just the ticket if you’re looking for an investment piece that’ll last you all year long and go with virtually any look!
Which of these statement bags will you be adding to your wardrobe this year?
Stay chic, my muses!
