Trend Talks- Grunge Goods: Chic Seasonal Staples Inspired by the Era of My Youth

Mixed plaids. Vintage tees. Lug sole boots.

This Fall, all trends seem to be pointing towards one common theme: grunge chic. As someone who was born in the 90s, and dabbled in the punky, emo styles of the early-to-mid 2000s, this is one trend I’m glad to see making a comeback!

The key to getting the right grunge look seems to be rooted in tailoring and editing. Fit is everything, so look for items that are tailored to perfection to bring the chic factor. (Like these Monse plaid trousers!) Try pattern mixing in small doses, but avoid piling on too many pieces so you look cool, not costume-y.

Be sure to finish off your look with one of the biggest trends of the year: lug sole boots. (Bonus points if they’re in an unexpected color, like these by Dr. Martens!)

Despite my lifelong appreciation for alt-styles, I’ve never owned a pair of Doc Martens until this year! My mom has had a pair of classic black combat-style Docs in her closet since the nineties, and though I borrowed them countless times, it never crossed my mind to buy a pair of my own until I came across the chunkier, modern reinterpretation that’s been gracing the pages of fashion magazines and street style blogs alike.

The last little bit of grunge that’s been growing in popularity again is the new-vintage tee: decades-old designs updated for the modern age. A few of my faves include this oversized nod to my previous home state, and this shrunken homage to one of my favorite artists (nearly sold out, but find similar styles here!). Whether it’s a baby tee or boyfriend tee, these are one nineties inspired trend you need in your closet this year.

So there ya have it: three trends guaranteed to add a little grunge glam to any wardrobe! What’s your favorite? Comment below!
