There’s something so chic and charming about vintage clothing. Maybe it’s the idea that this dress survived for decades, worn by numerous people with a story only it knows, just to make its way to your closet. Or maybe it’s the care put into the construction of a jacket that you just don’t see in modern clothes. Or the quirky details of buttons, laces, and prints that are no longer mainstream in our world today.

Whatever it is that makes vintage clothes so alluring, they can play a huge role in a modern wardrobe. Fashion trends often reach back into past eras for inspiration, and having clothes that not everyone just picked up at the local mall has something to be said for it in terms of personal style. If you’ve never tried wearing vintage, or if you have vintage pieces you’re not sure what to do with, this is what I’d recommend for making vintage clothes modern and not costume-y.

Pay attention to current trends…

This look includes a vintage maxi dress from the 1960s, but sticks with the “Tomato Girl” aesthetic that has been popular on social media lately!

Break up the old with the new…

I paired this vintage velvet skirt set with modern accessories and a bralette to keep things updated!

Opt for classic silhouettes…

This vintage 1950s dress has a classic A-line silhouette that’s still just as flattering and chic as it was over 60 years ago! Styles like this never really go out of fashion!

I hope these quick and easy fashion tips help you wear vintage confidently! Be sure to subscribe to my blog for more style tips and shop my the vintage pieces I’ve been scoping out lately below by clicking on the images…
