After a few years of riding the Y2K wave, it’s time to usher in a new/old set of trends from one polarizing era: the 2010s.
Tbh, I don’t really know how I feel about this round of fashion comebacks… I mean, I don’t really look back at this era with the fondest of outfit envy (granted, at this time, I was going through the ever-too-awkward pubescent phase and it’s hard to be fond of that…). Nevertheless, they’re coming in a big way, so here are the top 2010s fashion trends that’ll be big in 2024 (along with where you can shop!)…

Belts for no reason…

Ah yes, the not-actually-functional oversized belt for outfits that need no belt… Nothing quite says the 2010’s like this trend! Big statement belts are coming back big time, and it’s even become popular again to wear multiple belts with one outfit a la Hot Topic circa 2008. If it’s non-functional, it’s fabulous! Belt a dress, cardigan, or just wrap it round your lower waist for quite the throwback statement. Shop my oversized belt faves below…
Peplum tops…

Oh the peplum top… Throw in a statement necklace and sock bun, and you’ve got my go-to outfit all through high school. Luckily, peplum tops seem to be coming back in a more sophisticated way: where the sharper, seamed lines of yesterday have given way to a more gradual, elegant flare. Peplums can be very flattering and accentuate curves, just make sure the narrowest part of the peplum hits at your narrowest part so you get that hourglass curve! Shop my favorite peplum tops below…
Bolero cardigans…

Back in the 2010s, bolero cardigans were our way to “cover up” more revealing dresses for school dances, and now they range from cutesy to edgy options for those of us who are always cold, but not cold enough for a full sweater. Boleros are cropped and wrap just around the shoulders, so you’ll still be able to show off a cute dress or your décolleté! They look perfect with corsets, slip dresses, and mini tank tops. Bermuda shorts…

I’m pretty sure we all wore these on vacations in middle school, high school, or somewhere along the way! Now, Bermuda shorts are back in cooler styles like sequins and leather. So far, no signs of the patchwork plaid Bermuda shorts of yesteryear, but you never know what 2024 might bring! One thing I’d recommend, though: go for Bermuda shorts that are straight leg, not tight fitting to the leg. Straight leg shorts are always more flattering and comfortable IMO! Bubble hems…

I’m like 99% sure the first “formal” dress I ever wore to a family wedding had a bubble hem… Bubble hems are where the fabric is tucked under and gathered at the hem instead of being left loose, and they can be a bit tricky to pull off. My tip here is to make sure your bubble hem item has a defined waist and isn’t *too* big and bubbly, otherwise it may look a little like a tomato or bell pepper.. Luckily, this style seems to be coming back in a slimmer, more modern way, so check out my bubble hem clothing picks below!
Tunic tops…

Tunic tops can also be tricky because they lengthen the torso and shorten the leg line, which isn’t great if you’re on the shorter side like me. I think the key here is to try and go for sheer, lightweight fabrics and well-fitting, proportionate layers underneath to show a little more of the figure. Heels are a great way to add extra height, too, and petite clothes will often be cut a little shorter so you won’t appear to be swimming in a too-long top. You can also gain bonus style points for adding the aforementioned belt-for-no-reason to this style to define a waistline! Shop the tunic tops I’m loving below…
Layering t-shirts…

I totally did this sooo much in Jr. High to get around stingy school dress codes! The concept here is great as it gives you more coverage and can help dress down dressier items for daytime. Just make sure your tee is on the fitted side so it doesn’t look too bulky! Shop my favorite layering t-shirts below…
Vests…

A style to re-inVEST in… (I had to..) I was personally a big fan of the vest back in the day, and it’s definitely a menswear inspired trend I’m happy to see back! Choose a vest that’s proportionately right for your height and shape, and throw on a tie for an added element of private school chic! Shop the vests I love below…
