This Spring 2023 fashion trend is officially going VIRAL this season! Suddenly ombré is back and more impactful than ever, and this time it’s going further than the questionably blended hair dye jobs we all fell victim to circa ten years ago. The latest ombré trend takes its inspiration from the ever-varying hues of sunsets, and the melting, swirling colors instantly evoke warm summer afternoons of melting popsicles and watercolor skies.
Ombré has been popping up on all my favorite retailers’ sites; from Zara to Asos, even Revolve and Saks Fifth Avenue have some cute ombré clothes this year, and at all different price points!
The key to nailing the sunset ombré trend, though, is picking the right color combination for your personal style. The great news is, this trend comes in shades from the pastel ombré of dusk to an edgier version that fades from the reds of a late sunset to the soft darkness of night. Picking a color palette that’s authentic to your style will help you effortlessly style these trendy new pieces with your existing wardrobe! Larger gradients of ombré that are strategically placed can highlight areas you’re most confident with, and smaller gradients read like a classic stripe pattern with a twist. This watercolor ombré Zara slip dress was a last minute purchase for an event, and I fell in LOVE with it the moment I saw it! Let’s just be real, slip dresses that flatter and fit correctly are kinda hard to come by, but this one did the job just right. The bias cut is very figure-loving, and the diagonal, wide ombré gradient creates a slimming, curve-hugging effect that’s effortless. I’m also a fan of slip dresses with sleeves because I hate bra straps showing with spaghetti strap dresses (plus, not wearing a bra under something so un-supportive is not the most comfortable IMO!).
