To me, corsets are the ultimate in femininity, elegance, and romance. What was once seen as a restrictive garment has been sort of reinvented this year as a modern celebration of liberation and personal choice.
I’ve always held a fascination for corsets. Ever since watching the Pirates of the Caribbean movies as a kid, I’ve been enraptured in the old-fashioned art of dressing and the idea of corsets as a thing of beauty. That being said, it’s not always easy to adopt centuries-old fashion into modern style, but with a little tweaking here and there, corsets can fit just about any occasion! (Pun intended…)
Here’s how you can bring a little bit of Bridgerton to every aspect of your wardrobe…
For Everyday…
There are two big trends I love when it comes to corsets for everyday: first is tapestry prints and second is sleeves. Both of these options are really popular right now, and they’re both versatile enough to style with jeans, slip skirts, and pretty much anything you could imagine!
Tapestry Prints
Reworking vintage fashion into something modern has been huge on the style scene this year, and corsets made out of or inspired by antique textiles add a level of romanticism to an already-sweet garment. Plus, this option can be an easy way to support recycling and reusing old fabrics to avoid textile waste! Shop a few of my fave picks below…
Corsets + Sleeves
The easiest way to make corsets feel like everyday wear is to add sleeves. After all, what feels more like your average top than sleeves or straps? This style is perfect for anyone wanting a little bit of the laced look without wanting to go full-on Scarlett O’Hara. Look for tops with seaming or boning details along the bodice for that corset feel without the laces, too! Shop my picks below…
For Going Out…
For semi-special occasions like a date night dinner or Sunday brunch, dresses are always my go-to. They’re easy to throw on, and somehow always look put-together with minimal effort! Adding a little lacing or bustier detail just makes them all the more elegant and fun. Here’s my favorite semi-casual, semi-dressed-up picks…
For Events…
Go big or go home; that’s usually my motto when it comes to dressing for big bashes! My favorite way to incorporate the corseted look into dressy ‘fits is to wear them with fluffy tulle skirts, lace, sparkle, or all of the above! Corsets are a statement, so your whole look should be too! Here’s what I’d wear for an evening out…
Corsets are one of those things that don’t have to be uncomfortable or archaic to wear. If chosen and styled well, they can be an enjoyable part of your wardrobe that fits your lifestyle and perspective! This is one trend that I think will withstand the test of time for sure!
Would you wear corsets or corset-inspired styles?
