First, micro mini skirts are back from the era of 2000s Paris Hilton, now micro shorts are the next hottest spring fashion trend on the fashion scene. Seen on celebrities like Kristin Stewart and Dua Lipa, micro shorts are the ultimate leg-loving trend.

(Disclaimer: Basically, the micro shorts trend is exactly that: a trend. Will it be around forever? Probably not. But, there are ways to dabble in this daring trend even if you’re a fashion wallflower and still feel comfortable and secure doing it! Celebrities wear a lot of things that wouldn’t really fly in the real world, so these are ways to emulate the trend in a wearable way that the average person could feel comfortable with. Read on…)
As someone who is a *little* self conscious of showing that much upper thigh, I wanted to share my style tips for wearing micro shorts with anyone else out there who might be a little perplexed by this trend! Here’s how I’m styling the micro shorts trend this season…
Loose fitting legs…

If you’re like me and are self conscious of your thighs, the last thing that sounds appealing is shrink wrapping those gals into something super tight AND borderline obscenely short. I personally feel like a looser leg opening on shorts is waaay more thigh-flattering than a skin-tight fit, so opt for micro shorts that are a little loose around the thigh, with a tapered, high waisted fit.
High rise, happy thighs…

Speaking of high-waisted… If I’m going to wear something that’s so short that I can barely move without being arrested for indecency, then you bet it’s going to be high waisted! I just like a little extra coverage somewhere at least… Plus, low waisted plus itsy bitsy equals longer torso and wider hips equals not the most flattering. Low waisted micro skirts and shorts are pretty much like putting a light up road sign across your crotch and they start to feel a little loincloth-esque… anyways… Higher rise, happy thighs.
Top it off right…

Lastly, not wearing something super duper teeny on top can help you feel less exposed in micro shorts! Micro shorts can look sweet and sassy, if you pair them with the right top. If you pair them with something super tiny on top, you might be mistaken for a rave-goer or someone else… I mean, if that’s your vibe, you do you! I just don’t feel like I’m quite confident and comfortable in my own skin enough to pull off that look lol…
No matter what your style perspective is, or whether or not this trend speaks to you, you have to wear clothes in a way that makes you feel happy and comfortable! What I’ve shown here is how I feel comfortable in this particular trend, and I encourage you to experiment and find how you like to wear it! Fashion isn’t one size fits all (or it shouldn’t be…), so I hope this has inspired you to take a style risk while also being true to yourself!
I rounded up some of my favorite micro shorts in a variety of fits below, so click on the images to shop the pair that speaks to you…
