I know what you might be thinking: cruelty-free, clean beauty often comes with a much higher price tag, so are there affordable options that won’t hurt us or our furry friends?
Well, in recent years, a lot more retailers are offering a ton of options that are clean, cruelty-free, and yes, inexpensive! I’ve found a lot of essentials at Target when it comes to this kind of beauty, and I wanted to share a few of my favorites! Read on…
1 | E.L.F 18 Hit Wonders Eyeshadow Palette
The. Colors. This palette is cruelty-free, vegan, and listed under Target’s Clean section, meaning it’s free of Phthalates, Propyl-paraben &Butyl-paraben, Sodium Laureth Sulfate and more icky chemicals. Plus, at a teeny price tag of $14 for 18 rainbow-bright colors, I’d say it’s a wise investment!
2 | Native Fluoride Anticavity Toothpaste
I had no idea toothpaste could be tested on animals! According to ethicalelephant.com, “In addition to animal-based ingredients in toothpastes, most mainstream toothpaste brands are still testing on animals.” I found an amazing alternative that is cruelty-free, though, and that’s Native Fluoride Anticavity Toothpaste. It even has charcoal to whiten and detox, and I’ve totally felt like my teeth look whiter since I started using it! I will admit, it is a bit pricier than a comparable one from Crest at Target: $9.99 compared to $4.39, but I really do feel like it’s worth the difference.
3 | Pacifica Lavender Moon Body Lotion
I actually use this mini body lotion as a hand lotion to keep in the car! (In case you didn’t know, I’m a hand lotion junkie! Especially with all the hand washing this past year…) It’s vegan, cruelty-free, clean, and smells AMAZING! Plus, the bottle is made with 50% recycled plastic, so it’s an all-around win. Price: $4.99 for 1.7 fl oz.
4 | Tom’s of Maine Whole Care Mouthwash
This mouthwash has fluoride (great for strengthening enamel!) and ingredients you can actually pronounce, like aloe leaf juice! I love that it doesn’t burn like other mouthwashes too! Price: $5.99. Average price of Crest at Target: $5.89-$8.29.
5 | Shea Moisture 100% Virgin Coconut Oil Leave-In Treatment
I love so many of Shea Moisture’s products. They’re cruelty-free, and have lots of skin-and-hair-loving ingredients. This leave-in conditioner is my go-to for long summer days at the beach, and it smells amazing! The price? $9.99. A similar one from TRESemme is $9.59.
6 | Shea Moisture 100% Raw Shea Butter
I LOVE raw shea butter! When my skin is sunburned or ultra-dry, I use this deeply-moisturizing butter and it is back to normal almost overnight! You can also use this raw ingredient in homemade lotions or balms, so it does double duty! Target has a 10.5 oz jar for $15.99, but it really does go a long way! I’ve had my jar for about 6 months and it’s lasted a lot longer than my other lotions!
Nail polishes have so many icky things in them usually, so I love that this brand is clean! Plus they don’t test on animals, and their polish performs just as well as conventional brands! The price tag for my favorite quick-dry topcoat? $10.49. The price for a similar topcoat from Essie? $9.59. Less than a dollar more for a lot less bad stuff!
There’s tons of options out there for cruelty-free, clean beauty products that don’t break the bank. All it takes is a little research, but luckily a lot of places make it really easy!
I’ll be adding more of my faves to this list, so stay tuned for more! Want my ultimate guide to clean + cruelty-free beauty? Click here to read!
