I’m a huge lover of vintage home decor! Buying vintage to me is like buying a storybook: something that’s had its own life before you, and you eventually connecting with it feels like having a small window into the past. Some of my favorite eras to pull from when it comes to home decor (and fashion!) are the 1960s, 70s, and 80s. I love a retro mod vibe with mid century accents, mixed with a little 80s post-modern maximalism and 70s earthy tones…

I must say, though, despite my love for all things vintage, I don’t love things that seem to “theme-y”. I love retro-inspired, not retro-literal! Plus, having a mix of vintage and modern styles at home makes things feel fresh and current, but also lived-in. As much as I like trips down memory lane, I also prefer to feel like my space reflects my story as a twentysomething in 2022, so this is what I do to create the right balance (IMO) of vintage and modern home decor…
Play with natural textures and tones…

A lot of times, modern spaces can run the risk of feeling a bit cold, so incorporating natural materials and textures can warm it up. I love vintage weavings (like these that I inherited from family and found at a market!). They always feel personal, like the story of the weaver is ingrained in the fibers. Plus, they’re great conversation starters to have on the wall!

Curate collections of vintage and modern art that share a similar vibe…

I love setting up little vignettes throughout the home! I’ve stacked vintage artworks I’ve found with more modernized art that I’ve made, and I love how this creates a focal point in the room.

Look for vintage pieces that could pass for current…

I love that a lot of vintage home decor trends have become popular again! This makes it a lot easier to shop vintage and have the pieces still look current! In the photos above, the brass swan, pink cactus vase, and jewelry tray are all items I’ve found at consignment shops and antique malls. These pieces could pass for things found at modern retailers, like Urban Outfitters or Anthropologie, that reproduce vintage styles!
